Food & Water Preparedness

Being prepared for emergency situations, either short or long-term, is not lack of faith in God. It is using our God-given wisdom and skills to help those in need when a situation arises. Any number of events can severely restrict access to supplies of food and water. Tornadoes, hurricanes, winter storms, flooding, fire, disruption of the electrical grid, and stops in supply chains can cut off access for days, weeks or even longer. Recent events show us that this is the truth whether we like it or not. Store shelves can empty in a matter of hours when panic hits.
I am not talking about going into “survivalist” mode. Being wise in our preparation does not mean we are fanatical or lacking faith. God trusts us to make wise decisions to help our families and communities when difficult times arrive.
At a minimum we should have at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food and drinking water. Any number of the situations mentioned above can put us in a place of need in that time frame. I would lean more toward a three-week storage. Severe weather can shut down a widespread area for weeks. As we have seen, labor strikes, pandemics, and political unrest can disrupt the food supply chain that can take weeks to get back in order. If you are in a place of need you will not be able to provide for your family or anyone else. It is simply being wise, not extremism.
I will share more in the near future on food storage options. We will discuss canning, freezing, vacuum sealing, dehydration and other short and long-term storage options. In the meantime, check out Proverbs 6:6-8 and Proverbs 30:25.
